The Pixel 6 Pro is a highly anticipated phone that does not disappoint. With some great new software additions, a strong performance, a superb camera system, and a gorgeous and sleek design, the Google Pixel 6 Pro is all that it promised to be. Its main benefit? The price stands at a sensible $899, which is far more economical than the iPhone 13 Pro’s $999 or the iPhone 13 Pro Max at $1,099.
Let’s look at a breakdown of why the Pixel 6 Pro is a flagship phone for 2022.
Premium Design
The 6.7-inch Pixel 6 Pro has an all-glass rear — the reinforced Gorilla Glass Victus — that curves around to meet the 100% recycled aluminum frame. The glass also curves on the front and the display does too, making it appear more premium.
Although the phone is 6.7-inch, it fits well in your hand. However, the sleek glass is pretty slippery so you may want to invest in one of Google’s protective cases. One design feature that sets it apart from other phones is the camera bar that stretches across the width of the phone at the top of the back. The bar protrudes about 3mm, preventing your phone from lying totally flat but also not making it rock.
The Pixel Pro 6 also comes in an array of gorgeous colors, including the Cloudy White, which is a pale silver shade; Stormy Black, which is the standard black shade; and our favorite, the Sorta Sunny, which is a pale peach-rose-gold color.
IP68-Rated Water Resistance
Google Pixel 6 Pro is IP68-rated for water resistance. This means that the phone can tolerate being in one foot of water for up to 30 minutes. This doesn’t mean that you can place it in your trunks when you go swimming, but it is useful if you are one of those people who have a habit of spilling beer and coffee on your phone.
Quick Fingerprint Scanner
The fingerprint scanner on the Pixel 5 was on the back of the phone. This has been replaced by an in-screen scanner, which works quickly and accurately most of the time. The Pixel 6 Pro does not come with the face unlock feature, which is a bit of a disappointment. However, with masks still being a requirement in many indoor spaces, having a fingerprint scanner is arguably much more useful.
Excellent Camera System
The big camera bar consists of three different cameras: a 12-megapixel ultra wide camera; a 48-megapixel telephoto with 4x optical zoom; and the main camera with a 1/1.3-inch sensor that allows you it to capture 2.5 times more light than the camera in the Pixel 5. Google Pixel is known for its superb camera and this one is no different.
The main camera lens offers stunning and vibrant images that showcase all the details and have an excellent balance of exposure.
The ultra wide lens also offers the same exposure and rich colors, but captures less overall detail. However, that is only noticeable if you zoom in really close.
One of the most useful functions that Google has thrown in is an editing tool that removes people from the background of the image, so there’s no more danger of photobombing. The phone also comes with the long exposure mode that allows you to create blurred waterscapes, and the Nightscape mode that allows you to take breathtaking photos in the dark.
The cameras also have excellent video quality, with amazing image stabilization, a superb dynamic range, and 4k resolution that allows for plenty of details.
Tensor Processor
Google’s move to produce its very own processor shows its strong commitment to remaining in the hardware market. The processor allows nippy navigation around an Android 12 interface, allowing you to play games like Call of Duty without a hitch. Photo editing and streaming are handled excellently, in just the way that you would expect from any other high-end phone.
On benchmark tests like 3DMark’s Wild Life Extreme graphics test, the Pixel 6 Pro stands toe to toe with Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and better than the OnePlus 9 Pro.
The processor is designed keeping in mind the AI, machine learning, and speech-recognition apps. The phone already has built-in speech recognition functions into the keyboard and real-time translation options, as well as improved visual translations when using Google Lens.
Android 12& Security
The Android 12 is extremely neat and easy to use and provides an uncomplicated experienced even for novice users. The phone allows you to create custom themes based on the image you chose for your background, including picking its dominant color and using its complimentary colors to change the appearance of some part of the interface, including the default Google apps.
Google Pixel 6 Pro is more focused on security both on the hardware and software side. The Android 12 offers more granular control of your privacy and security, including a dashboard that shows the information recently used by individual apps and buttons in the pull-down notification trays that turn off your camera and microphone.
Google has also announced the phone will be getting security updates for five years, which means you can use it for longer.
Vibrant Display
The Pixel 6 Pro’s 6.7-inch display is bright and vibrant due to its 3,120 1,440 pixel resolution. The colors are clear and vibrant, allowing you to play colorful games like Frozen Free Fall or watch videos like Netflix’s Squid Game. The display has an adaptive refresh rate up to 120Hz if you are using heavy apps, which can go down to 10Hz when it is sitting idle, saving battery power.
Solid Battery Life and Charging
The Pixel 6 Pro runs on a 5,003-mAh battery, which can give you two days of mixed use easily. After an hour of watching YouTube, the battery only drops to 98%. You can extend the battery life even further by keeping the screen brightness down and turning off GPS.
The phone has Qi wireless charging and supports fast charging with a 30-watt charger that you can buy separately. This can allow the phone to recharge to 50% in just half an hour. The Extreme Battery Saver mode also allows you to pause all your essential apps to preserve the remaining charge.
